I had my car taken in for MOT about five weeks ago, and I've not driven it much since. When I went to pick it up from the MOT there was a really strong petrol / petrochemical smell. I figured it had just been in a garage being poked and prodded and assumed it would go away. I didn't drive it much, and the smell... didn't go away. To the point where I started getting suspicious. Particularly when I noticed that it faded when I turned off the ventilation, but came back when I turned it back on. So it smelled like something was leaking into the ventilation.

I took it to the garage yesterday, and they opened the bonnet before turning over the engine. Apparently a fuel line was "pissing" petrol over the inside of the bonnet and they were amazed nothing had caught fire. So that was a narrow break.

It's fixed now and the car smells fine, just in time for a long car journey in a week or so.

Yikes! I'm sure glad you've gotten it safely repaired.

I'm glad the car didn't actually catch fire but my god, should they not have caught that?!
